PSAYDN has been energized by the significant contributions made to local Afterschool programs by individuals, community and faith based organizations, businesses and other organizations helping children and youth across the Commonwealth.
In order to recognize and document individuals and/or organizations for their contributions to afterschool/youth development programs, PSADYN sponsored the Pennsylvania Afterschool Champion Award, to honor exceptional work in the afterschool/youth development across the state.

One Champion nominated and awarded is the Erie Insurance Group of Erie, PA.  As a Fortune 500 company, Erie Insurance Group has a long standing history of supporting educational programs in the Erie School District. They have been an advocate through their donations of money, services, supplies, materials, and information in supporting these programs.

Jeanne Bender, Retired Program Supervisor of CHAMPS Afterschool Enrichment Program nominated the Erie Insurance Group for their outstanding service. Bender presented the award to a Group member on Thursday, October 16th, at a participating Lights On Afterschool event at Irving Elementary School.
An additional Champion who received this celebrated award is the Bank of New York Mellon of Pittsburgh, PA.  As a leading provider of financial series for institutions, corporations and high net worth individuals, they provide superior asset and wealth management to their clients.

Nominated by Karris M. Jackson of Urban Youth Action, the Bank of New York Mellon has been an advocate by volunteering time, donating services, provided student internships and jobs, and generated support from other companies, organizations and individuals. Urban Youth Action is planning to present the award to the Bank of New York Mellon at a later date.

Each Afterschool Champion recipient has received a certificate of appreciation, and their names or organization has been listed on the PSAYDN website.
